1. How do you select the names of your characters?

I usually try to keep from using the same first initial, to help readers keep characters straight in their heads. I start with a spreadsheet that has ABC down the first column, then I begin putting in names and places as I choose them.

If the hero is Greek, obviously he’ll have a Greek name. I often google ‘most popular names of YEAR’ and use the birth year for that character. I also have a book of names that are sorted by heritage so I often refer to that.

I try not to use a name I’ve used before, but I didn’t start a master list and it’s too hard to go back eighty books and log those so I sometimes wind up reusing a name.

 

2. If you didn’t write, what would you do for work?

Photography maybe? I don’t have any special skills, but I like taking photos. ☺

3. Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

I do read them and it can sting, but I always remember that they’re for other readers. If a reader says something is too sexy or the hero was too mean, another reader will snap it up.

I often include a snippet from the good ones in my newsletter or in a graphic for social media.

4. Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

I don’t do it often, but sometimes. When I was writing the erotic collections, I made a few subtle references to other stories, even though they weren’t really connected stories.

5. What was your hardest scene to write?

I always struggle with this question because writing is hard and sometimes a scene is difficult to write because I haven’t planned it out well, or I’m trying to take the story in a direction that doesn’t work. I rarely have scenes that are too hard to write from an emotional aspect. If I know what the emotions are, I just pour them onto the page.

6. Do you Google yourself?

Sometimes, but I’ve never landed on anything interesting about myself. For a while, my name kept getting auto-corrected to the Al Pacino film Danny Collins. That was annoying.  

7. What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?

I’ve already given up a lot of money in conference fees, craft books, and workshop, lol!

Becoming a better writer means applying yourself and learning and trying things that might fail. It’s an investment of time which could be spent doing other things. I love writing enough that I’ll put myself through whatever growing pains are needed.

8. Tell us about your book...

In Her Billion-dollar Bump, Fliss puts her fashion aspirations on hold to care for her ailing grandmother. After she loses her, she’s working in London at a grotty job, but thinks she’s found the golden ticket in the trash—it’s an invite to a special gala where she wants to showcase her gown.

 

Saint is a consummate (pun intended) playboy who uses Fliss as a distraction, helping her into the ball to get the paparazzi off his latest scandal and onto her. That blows up when they have an affair and her stolen invite comes to light. She loses her job and has to leave London, hopefully never to see Saint again, but she turns up pregnant so she has to look him up.

 

It’s drama, drama, drama with tons of sexy times, some laughs, some tarot cards and talking to ghosts, and—of course!—a happily ever after.
