- If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Hang in there – it will happen. Also, study the market. Also, PICK ONE. Don’t try everything.
(Having said that, I’m glad I did try everything. I wish it hadn’t taken 25 yrs to publish, but I don’t regret any of the books I wrote in that time.)
- How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Working with editors, on deadline, is terrifying, but does motivate me. I don’t like to show my unpublished work to anyone, but after I got over the fear, I discovered I’m quite comfortable with my editor(s.) I enjoy the partnership of offering my best effort, then hearing this or that needs punching up. I don’t take it as failure. It’s a joint effort to fix any weak spots and I feel better about my work after I’ve applied her feedback.
- What was the best money you ever spent as a writer?
Long before I published, when writing was something I was mostly dreaming about and not doing, I happened on a book about to be returned by the book store owner. It was called “Getting the Words Right – How to Rewrite, Edit and Revise” by Theodore A. Rees Cheney. It was close to $20 which was a lot back then, considering I was only aspiring to write. But it was a crash course in clean writing. I credit it with teaching me HOW to write.
- What authors did you dislike at first but grew into?
That’s a loaded question! Honestly, I cut my teeth on the early and very British Presents. Nora Roberts had a completely different approach. Her heroes weren’t complete alpha-holes. I always knew that picking up one of her books would be a quality read, but I was more attracted to the brooding, ruthless heroes by other authors at that time.
- Tell us a bit about your book...
Sheikh’s Princess of Convenience is classic Presents! When Galila threatens to spill a secret Karim’s been hiding for most of his life, he compromises her reputation, then corners her into marriage to ensure she reveals nothing. She’s feisty and independent, but a virgin. They spend a hot night in a desert tent after a sandstorm and she ultimately saves him from his own brooding self. Fun fact: this is Book Three in a multi-author quartet called Bound to the Desert King with Tara Pammi, Maya Blake and Caitlin Crews.
About Dani Collins
Award-winning and USA Today Bestselling author Dani Collins thrives on giving readers emotional, compelling, heart-soaring romance with some laughter and heat thrown in, just like real life. Mostly she writes contemporary romance for Harlequin Presents and Tule’s Montana Born, but her backlist of forty books also includes self-published erotic romance, romantic comedy, and even an epic medieval fantasy. When she’s not writing—just kidding, she’s always writing. She lives in Christina Lake, BC with her high school sweetheart husband who occasionally coaxes her out of her attic office to visit their grown children—or travel.

Delete"...emotional, compelling, heart-soaring romance with some laughter and heat thrown in..." Wow! What a great description. The whole idea of being seduced in a tent by a brooding Omar Sharif-looking character holds a rather naughty appeal.
