Mercenary knight Rhain wanders the lands, fights for coin, and is haunted by his past. Then, in a wreck of an inn, he tastes a cake made sublime with honey, and rescues a woman he wants more than any sweet. But with a vengeful warlord pursuing him, he’s merely a dead man awaiting the sword.
Helissent’s family died in a tragic fire; and she bears the scars for all to see. When she’s forced from her home, she bargains with the traveling mercenaries to take her to a different town, even though, disfigured and shamed she survived when her family didn’t, she knows she’ll never have a better life.
Along the way, both Rhain and Helissent reveal their pasts, and begin to long for a future. But with the enemy pursuing them both, is it too late?

What is the
most difficult part of your artistic process?
Sitting down
and writing! I seem to have writer’s block every time I write. It’s not the
inspiration or the storylines that holds me back, it’s something about me that
just fears approaching the keyboard. Most of my stories are emotional journeys,
and I think I feel the pain of my characters. The good bit is I also share in
their happily-ever-afters. That’s the part that keeps me going!
Does your
family support your career as a writer?
If there was
more than 100 percent support, that would be my family. Not that they fully
understand the process. My husband believes it’s all stuff I’m making up, so
how can it be so difficult? And my children believe it’s funny when I’m right
next to them typing, but tell them ‘I’m not here, go ask your dad.’ However, in the end, I couldn’t do this
without them. Not even a little bit.
If you had to
do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an
adult, what would you do?
I would have
taken more risks early on. These stories I’m writing I thought of years ago,
but never had the courage to write them.
How long on
average does it take you to write a book?
The
first book took me years to write. The second one, because of contracts, mere
months. Can I tell the difference between them? Not really. I can type fast
when I type, but it’s that pesky avoiding the keyboard that gets me! So, there
are days when I write nothing and others when I write 5k. I don’t recommend
this process when you have too many stories to tell!

Oh this sounds like a fun read! It must be amazing to have stories in your head and be able to sit down at a typewriter to get lost in them.
ReplyDeleteLove.
ReplyDeleteGreat interview and it sounds like quite a book!
ReplyDeletehaha good interview :D
ReplyDeleteand YAY for giveaway! :D
Nice interview, ladies! I love the part about telling your kids you're "not there" when you're writing. As my husband would attest, I'm not only guilty of that while writing; I'm also nearly that bad when I'm reading or just "writing in my head."
ReplyDeleteI have a difficult time sitting in from of a keyboard and writing, too, so I always write longhand in a notebook first. For some reason, it's easier for me to think that way. Editing is no problem on the computer, but for first drafts, it's torturous for me to stare at that computer screen.
Forgive me for any typos. One of my cats is perched directly between me and the monitor. (Heaven forbid I should make her move!)
Oh good, your cat is 'helping' you! When I'm deep in the story, I can barely function. Today there are too many voices in my head...better go put them on paper! If longhand helps you, have you tried Dragon? I find that helps with story flow for me.
DeleteLoved the interview. I've read a couple of great reviews for this one and it sounds quite good.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary! It's been such a joy to hear back from readers regarding Rhain and Helissent's story.
DeleteTyping quickly definitely helps. I'm pretty fast, but my characters are faster. It's hard to keep up sometimes.
ReplyDelete'Characters are faster' is a perfect way of putting it! Mine are running circles around me.
DeleteI wonder how he is going to get away from being a hunted man! I can see all types of action coming into play in this novel as well as romance.

You've got a fun blog! As for the story? The heroine comes to the rescue of course! However, I have to admit there's a plot twist. It is the Lovers and Legends series after all.
DeleteSometimes that first step of just sitting down to write is the hardest!
ReplyDeleteHello Sherry! I'm curious, do you have the same trouble with music? Or is playing the first note easy for you?
